Painting a hardwood flooring is just as any other domestic decorating endeavor — there is a lot of work to do before you prise the lid off the paint can. You need to apply the paint to a surface that has been prepared, to achieve a professional finish. Before you pick up your paint brushes and rollers, get ready to sand, fill and clean.
Organizing the Floor
Remove and rugs from the room. Apply painter’s tape into the base of the baseboards to avoid paint when you are cutting around the edges of the room splashing to them.
Sand the floor with 220-grit sandpaper. Rent a floor sander to do this if the place is large. These machines vacuum the sanding dust up as they go together.
Inspect the floor for holes. Use wood filler if you become aware of any, and then scrape off the excess using a filler knife. Permit the filler it level with the floor’s remainder.
Vacuum the floor to remove all of the dust created by the sanding block. Wash the floor with a solution of water and mild household detergent. Squeeze as much water as you can from the mop each time you dip it in the solution. Repeat this process with water to remove the detergent. Allow the floor to dry. This can take around 2 days.
For knotting marks examine the hardwood flooring. Apply primer to each of these knotting marks having a small brush, to prevent the blot. Permit the primer to dry.
Fixing the Floor
Apply a coat of primer designed with your choice of flooring paint for use. Cut with a small brush in around the edge of the floor. Apply primer to the remainder of the floor using a large brush. Permit the primer to dry to the time recommended by the manufacturer.
Sand lightly with 220-grit sandpaper. Vacuum off all dust, and then wash the surface with cleanup rags dipped in mineral spirits, and squeezed out.
Apply a coat of paint using brushes: for cutting in the edges a small one, and a large one for the main subject of the floor. Permit the paint to dry for 24 hours.
Apply a thin coat of flooring paint, and leave it to dry for another 24 hours before applying a coat that is third in the exact same way. Clean your brushes and leave the floor to dry for a 24 hours. Remove from the baseboards.
