Vinyl blinds splattered with grease, including in a kitchen, require a little more cleaning than blinds which are simply dusty. Because the blinds are plastic, they may be washed with a mild soap-and-water solution after dusting and scrubbing them to eliminate any grimy residue that remains.
Vacuum First
Vacuuming the blinds first can help eliminate cobwebs and debris which are clinging to the forks. A upholstery brush attachment helps loosen materials clinging to the blinds. Shut the blinds in one way, like turning the bottom aspect of every blind to face you, then vacuum the blinds, for example, framework, holding the blinds into the window. Open the blinds and close them so they face the other way, including in a position that the maximum part of every blind faces you, and vacuum them once again. The procedure is the same with vertical blinds, except the left or right side of this blinds faces in as you open or close them.
Dusting the Blinds
Vacuuming removes a lot of the loose, dry debris, but may not eliminate all of it. Dust the blinds with a feather duster or wipe them with a microfiber dust mitt or a blind-cleaning wand to pick up more dust. Dust the corners and edges of the window sill and frame as well; differently, their dust may end up on the blinds. Wipe down either side of their blinds by opening them first one way, then the other, as when you were vacuuming.
Wet-Cleaning in Position
Dusting and vacuuming blinds does not remove greasy buildup, but soapy water will. Add a squirt or two of mild dishwashing liquid to a bucket of warm water. Shut the blinds so the forks face down toward you. Roll up old towels to catch water on the window sill and on the ground in front of the window; then dip a sponge into the soapy water and wipe every slat individually, beginning at the surface. Re-dip the sponge into the water every slat or two; then wring most of the water out of the sponge to avoid drips. Wipe the blinds with a soft, slightly damp cloth afterwards. Shut the blinds the other way and rub them down with the soapy water, followed by the damp cloth.
Bathtub Treatment for Dirty Blinds
The bathtub may be used to wash blinds which appear too cluttered to wash in place. Increase the blinds as high as you possibly can; then eliminate them from the holder maintaining them in place. You may need to slide a cover away on the holder to permit the blinds to come out. Set them in the tub and add enough water to cover the blinds, together with a few squirts of dish soap and a gallon container of vinegar to cut grease. Swish the blinds around, wiping any greasy areas you spot with a sponge, then drain the tub. Wash them with a shower wand, or by dumping cups of water in the tub. Hold them up over the tub to allow most of the water to drip away; then hang them back up, extending them completely. Shut them in one way and dry them with a soft cloth; then close them the other way and dry the exposed side of the blinds. Wipe down the windowsill or ground as well if any water dripped from the blinds.
